Comments

Butzbach is a small Hessian market town whose medieval walls were still largely intact when this note entered circulation during the Kleingeldnot — the small-change famine that gripped Germany as postwar inflation eroded coin production. Municipalities across the country issued emergency Kleingeldscheine to fill the gap, and Scharfes Druckereien in nearby Wetzlar printed several such series for communities throughout the region, keeping costs low through shared print runs and minimal typographic variation between issues.

The reference suffix "1a-6/8" indicates this belongs to a sequenced sub-series within the Butzbach issue — not a single note but one of a documented range, with minor plate distinctions separating them in specialist collections.
