Silberberg — now Srebrna Góra in southwestern Poland — was a small Silesian garrison town whose municipal authorities, like hundreds of other German communities, issued emergency small-change notes (Notgeld) during the early 1920s when coin shortages made daily commerce difficult. The town's name translates directly as "Silver Mountain," a reference to the silver mining that once defined the region, though by 1921 the mines had long ceased to matter economically.
Series-collecting drove much of the Notgeld market by this point — issuers knew hobbyists were buying sets, and production often exceeded genuine circulation need. Whether Silberberg's issue was primarily functional or collector-targeted is an open question.
