Freiburg in Schlesien was a small industrial town in Lower Silesia, and this note is a product of the Kleingeldersatz crisis that swept German municipalities in 1921 — the Reichsbank simply could not produce enough fractional coinage to keep local commerce moving. The Magistrat turned to Grube & Schneider, a local firm, rather than one of the large specialist printers handling Notgeld for bigger cities. That decision kept costs down but also kept quality modest.
The town is now Świebodzice, absorbed into postwar Poland following the 1945 border revision that resettled virtually the entire German-speaking population.
