Comments

Rothenburg ob der Tauber was among hundreds of German municipalities forced to issue their own fractional currency during the early Weimar inflation years, when coin metal was hoarded and official small denominations dried up almost entirely. What made Rothenburg's issues distinctive was the decision to print locally through Adolf Hoss rather than contracting one of the large specialist printers — Giesecke & Devrient, Köhler, or their competitors — who handled the bulk of German Notgeld work at this period.

Local printing meant shorter runs, less consistent registration, and more variation between printings. Worth examining for press artifacts accordingly.
