Arolsen — the residence town of the Princes of Waldeck — issued this 50 Pfennig Notgeld note in 1921 as Germany's postwar coin shortage dragged well into its third year. Louis Koch of Halberstadt was a minor regional printer responsible for a large volume of municipal emergency currency during this period, none of it particularly distinguished technically, though the output was consistent.
