Probstzella is a small rail junction village on the Thuringian-Bavarian border, and its 1921 Notgeld issue reflects the practical logic of the period — local authorities filling the void left by a federal coin shortage rather than any particular financial ambition. Tens of thousands of German municipalities did the same, which makes this note unremarkable as a type but historically legible as a document of just how comprehensively the Weimar small-change system had collapsed.
The print date of 30 April 1945 recorded in this catalog entry is almost certainly erroneous — that date falls at the absolute end of the Third Reich, well over two decades after 1921 Notgeld had any legal or practical relevance.
