| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse is printed in black and green on plain paper. Two large circular medallions at upper left and right each bear the numeral 50 in white on a black ground, with the abbreviation Pf printed below in green. The central vignette, executed in a caricature style, shows a distressed bearded man seated at a writing desk, quill pen in hand and an inkwell before him, weeping over a blank sheet — an illustration in the manner of Wilhelm Busch. A thick horizontal black rule with green bordering lines divides the vignette from the lower portion, which carries a two-line verse in German script followed by the attribution WILHELM BUSCH in green spaced capitals, and the printer's imprint at the very foot. |

Stolzenau an der Weser was a small administrative district in the Prussian province of Hanover, and this 50 Pfennig note is a product of the Notgeld wave that swept German municipal and district authorities in the early 1920s as small-denomination coinage vanished from circulation entirely. The Kreisausschuss — the district executive committee — had no banking function; it issued this simply because nothing else was filling the gap.
August Scherl GmbH was a Berlin publishing house better known for newspapers and mass-market print, which took on considerable Notgeld contract work during this period precisely because the volumes were high and the technical bar relatively low.
