Rödding — known in Danish as Rødding — sits in the former Schleswig plebiscite zone. The February 1920 vote returned the area to Denmark, and by June of that year the border was redrawn. This note was issued during that exact interregnum: German administration was winding down, Danish sovereignty had not yet fully taken hold, and small-denomination coinage had largely vanished from circulation across the region.
Like hundreds of other German municipalities in 1919–1920, Rödding resorted to Notgeld to fill the gap. The political timing here is unusually tight — this community was weeks away from ceasing to be German when the note was printed.
