Beschrijving voorzijde The upper portion carries a bold black silhouette vignette of the Stade city skyline — dominated by the tall spire of the Cosmae church — set against a teal-green radiating sunburst underprint. The denomination numeral '50' appears at upper left and at right flanking the inscription 'FÜNFZIG / 50 PFENNIG 50' in bold letterpress. Below the skyline, two flanking text panels in Gothic script bear the legal and redemption clauses, with the city arms (shield bearing a key and cross) at centre, accompanied by the manuscript signatures of Der Magistrat and Die Bürgervorsteher. The printer's imprint runs along the bottom margin.

Opmerkingen

Stade's 1920 Notgeld issue came out of the same municipal desperation that pushed hundreds of German towns to print their own emergency small change — the postwar coin shortage left ordinary retail transactions nearly impossible, and the Reichsbank offered no practical relief. Gebrüder Jänecke in Hannover was a prolific supplier to precisely this market, printing Notgeld for numerous Lower Saxony municipalities during 1919–1921.

The dual-signature format — one for the Magistrat, one for the Bürgervorsteher — reflects Stade's formal two-body municipal governance structure, a procedural detail that mattered locally even on emergency scrip.
