Allstedt is a small town in what was then the Prussian province of Saxony — administratively distinct from Thuringia proper, despite how it's often catalogued. This note is part of the vast Notgeld wave of 1920, when municipal authorities across Germany printed their own emergency small-denomination paper to compensate for a nationwide shortage of coins driven by metal hoarding and wartime disruption that never fully resolved after 1918.
Otto Henning A.G. in Greiz handled a substantial volume of Notgeld contracts for smaller Thuringian and Saxon municipalities during this period, functioning essentially as a regional jobbing printer for civic emergency issues. Bürgermeister Schroeder's signature authorizes the obligation locally.
