Nördlingen's 1920 notgeld series is among the more geographically self-conscious of the Bavarian municipal issues — the city's nearly perfect circular medieval wall, one of the best-preserved in Germany, made it a natural subject for local pride printing during the notgeld boom. These small-denomination emergency issues were produced by the thousands across German municipalities between 1918 and 1922, partly out of genuine coin shortage and partly because local governments and printers quickly recognized collector demand. Nördlingen leaned into that market.
The P#GRM reference places this as the fifth note in a five-piece set, a deliberate collector series rather than a purely functional emission.
