| Beschrijving voorzijde | A salmon-pink guilloche underprint of interlocking floral scrollwork covers the entire field, with the denomination numeral "50" set in ornate cartouches at each corner. The central text in blackletter script reads "Gutschein über Fünfzig Pfennig", followed by the place and date "Pritzwalk, den 1. August 1920" and the issuing authority line "Der Magistrat". | Opmerkingen |
Pritzwalk is a small Brandenburg market town with no particular monetary history to recommend it — which makes its appearance in the Notgeld record entirely unremarkable and entirely typical of the 1920 municipal emergency currency wave. The Magistrat issued these notes because small-denomination coinage had effectively vanished from everyday commerce, hoarded or melted as inflation eroded confidence in fixed metal values.
Gebrüder Parcus in Munich printed an enormous volume of Notgeld for municipalities across Germany during this period, and the guilloche underprint here is their house standard for deterring casual counterfeiting of notes that, in practical terms, almost no one would have bothered to counterfeit.
