| Obverse description | The upper portion carries a bold blackletter heading reading 'Notgeld der Stadt Detmold', with the city name rendered in large Gothic script dominating the centre. A polychrome vignette of the Detmold municipal coat of arms — a fortified gate with flanking towers and a red clover-leaf charge on a red field — is set within an elaborate dark scrollwork surround, flanked on each side by red and grey decorative panels with stylised floral motifs and hexagonal cartouches bearing the denomination '50 Pfg.' in black. The lower strip contains the serial number, a red-printed redemption text, and the magistrate's printed signatures, with the printer's imprint along the bottom margin. |
