| Descripción del anverso | The face is printed in red and olive on a cream ground, with a bold decorative border of black-outlined, hatched scrollwork enclosing a central cartouche in the Jugendstil manner. Four large edelweiss blossoms with yellow-green centres occupy the corners, their white petals rendered in fine outline. Within the cartouche, the issuer name and denomination voucher text are set in blackletter script above a red-tinted serial number panel, below which the place, date and a manuscript authorisation signature appear. |

| Descripción del reverso | The reverse carries a central landscape vignette printed in olive-gold and black, showing an Alpine lake — the Königssee — set against dramatic mountain ranges, with rocky foreground and sparse woodland rendered in fine line engraving style. The vignette is enclosed within a shaped cartouche framed by broad hatched borders in orange-brown and black, with the denomination numeral "50" repeated in each corner within circular rosette devices. A curved motto inscription arches across the upper portion of the vignette, and the printer's imprint appears along the lower margin. |

Berchtesgaden's 1920 Notgeld issue is one of thousands of municipal emergency notes printed during the acute coin shortage that followed Germany's defeat — but the Meindl firm in München-Pasing handled a significant share of Bavarian local authority printing during this period, and their presswork is generally cleaner than the rushed lithography that plagued many comparable issues from smaller regional printers.
Anton Leisler signed as market administrator. The authority to issue such scrip rested with local officials rather than any central banking body, a deliberately decentralized arrangement that produced enormous variety and — for later collectors — an almost unmanageable proliferation of types.
