| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse is dominated by the full-colour municipal coat of arms of Rotenburg, consisting of a blue shield charged with a fortified castle and two crossed flags, surmounted by a golden mural crown and framed by oak leaf branches in green. Denomination numerals '50' in bold calligraphic script appear in the upper corners, each accented with a red flourish. The remaining space is filled with three stanzas of a local patriotic poem titled 'Mein Rotenburg' by Fr. Helmke, rendered in fine handwritten-style script, with the designer's credit 'Heinr. Haas, entwurf' noted at the foot of the central vignette. |

Kreis Rotenburg in Hannover issued this note under the emergency currency provisions that allowed German administrative districts to produce Notgeld when the Reichsbank could not supply adequate small change — a chronic problem throughout 1919 and 1920 as inflation steadily ate through low-denomination coin reserves. Gebrüder Jänecke was a well-established Hannover printing house with deep roots in quality commercial and securities work, an unusual choice for what was nominally throwaway scrip.
Designer credit to Heinr. Haas is worth noting — named artists on district-level Notgeld are less common than the collector market implies, and the attribution here is unusually legible.
