Denomination numerals '50' in bold calligraphic script appear in the upper corners, each accented with a red flourish. The remaining space is filled with three stanzas of a local patriotic poem titled 'Mein Rotenburg' by Fr. Helmke, rendered in fine handwritten-style script, with the designer's credit 'Heinr. Haas, entwurf' noted at the foot of the central vignette.

Opmerkingen

Kreis Rotenburg in Hannover issued this note under the emergency currency provisions that allowed German administrative districts to produce Notgeld when the Reichsbank could not supply adequate small change — a chronic problem throughout 1919 and 1920 as inflation steadily ate through low-denomination coin reserves. Gebrüder Jänecke was a well-established Hannover printing house with deep roots in quality commercial and securities work, an unusual choice for what was nominally throwaway scrip.

Designer credit to Heinr. Haas is worth noting — named artists on district-level Notgeld are less common than the collector market implies, and the attribution here is unusually legible.
