Beschrijving voorzijde Printed in dark brown on a salmon-pink underprint bearing a repeating diagonal text pattern reading "STADT REMSCHEID 1917". The upper register carries a central guilloche vignette surmounted by the municipal coat of arms of Remscheid — a crowned escutcheon with a lion rampant — flanked by octagonal denomination panels bearing the numeral "50" at left and right. The central text panel states the obligation in German script, gives the issue date "Remscheid, den 1. April 1920", includes a printed serial number in red, a manuscript signature of the Oberbürgermeister, and the validity clause "Gültig bis 31. Dezember 1921". The lower banner reads "STADT REMSCHEID 1917" within an ornamental scroll frame.

Opmerkingen

Remscheid's Notgeld issues of 1920–21 belong to the second wave of German municipal emergency currency — not the desperate scrip of 1914–15, but the more calculated small-change substitutes produced when coin shortages persisted well into the Weimar period. The city was a heavy industrial center in the Bergisches Land, best known for tool and cutlery manufacturing, and its administration issued these notes through the local savings institution rather than a commercial bank.

Paper Notgeld of this denomination and period circulated hard and typically shows it. Remscheid's issues were not printed for collector series, which kept production quality functional rather than ornate.
