Könnern is a small market town in Saxony-Anhalt, and its 1920 Notgeld issue belongs to the first major wave of municipal emergency currency that flooded Germany as small-denomination imperial coinage vanished entirely from circulation — hoarded, melted, or simply exhausted by wartime production demands.
