| Vorderseitenbeschreibung | The obverse is printed in dark brown on a pink-violet guilloche underprint. The denomination numeral '50' appears in the upper left and right corners, flanking the central text 'Gutschein der Stadt Schleiz' in Gothic blackletter script. The large denomination legend 'Fünfzig Pfennige' is rendered in an ornate calligraphic Gothic typeface dominating the centre of the note. At lower left, a circular municipal seal of the Stadt Schleiz is impressed, accompanied by the issuing authority text 'Der Stadtgemeindevorstand' and a manuscript signature, with the date 'Schleiz, den 25 August 1919' printed along the lower margin. |

| Rückseitenbeschreibung | The reverse is printed in dark brown on a matching pink-violet guilloche underprint with a decorative scrollwork border. A central diamond-shaped vignette presents a detailed line-engraved view of the Bergkirche (hill church) of Schleiz, with a tall spire, adjacent buildings, a large tree, and a figure in the foreground beneath a dramatic clouded sky. The denomination numeral '50' is printed in bold type to the left and right of the central vignette, and the caption 'Bergkirche' appears above the scene. |

Schleiz was the capital of Reuss-Schleiz, one of the smallest sovereign principalities in the German confederation — absorbed into the newly formed Thuringia in 1920. This note was issued in the turbulent interim, when the old Reuss monetary and administrative structures had collapsed but Thuringian consolidation was not yet complete. Municipal authorities across Germany filled the vacuum with locally printed Notgeld, and Schleiz was no exception.
The Reuss principalities used a peculiar naming convention for their male rulers — every prince was named Heinrich, distinguished only by number — which makes the archival record of this period unusually confusing to navigate.
