| Beschrijving voorzijde | Typeset notgeld printed in dark brown and red on plain paper, with a meander-pattern border framing the entire face. The denomination numeral '50' appears in large bold type within ornamental cartouches at left and right, while the title 'Fünfzig Pfennig' is set in Gothic blackletter script across the upper centre over a fine guilloche underprint. The body of the note carries the redemption text in smaller Gothic type, dated 'Aurich, den 15. Oktober 1919', with a serial number and manuscript signature at lower left, and an embossed circular official seal of the Magistrat der Stadt Aurich applied in red at lower right. |

Aurich, the administrative capital of East Frisia, issued this Notgeld during the acute small-change shortage that followed Germany's defeat. The Magistrat — the municipal governing body — authorized local printer William Biermann to produce the notes, making this a wholly local production: designed, printed, and issued within the same small town.
East Frisian municipal Notgeld from this period tends to be underrepresented in major collections, partly because the quantities issued by smaller Magistrats were modest and redemption rates were high once Reichsbank coinage resumed.
