背面描述 Printed in green and black on white paper, the reverse carries a full-field underprint of repeated circular medallions inscribed 'STADT ESCHWEGE' with the city gate vignette and the numeral 50. At centre, a diamond-shaped cartouche frames a detailed line-art vignette of the historic Eschwege Steintor (stone gate), flanked by a horizontal bar bearing the large numeral '50' to the left and the abbreviation 'PF.' to the right in white on black ground; a spray of laurel leaves crowns the apex of the diamond.

备注

Eschwege is a small town in Hessen-Nassau, and like hundreds of similarly sized German municipalities, it issued its own emergency paper money — Notgeld — during the acute coin shortage that followed the First World War. The Reichsbank's metal coinage had largely disappeared from circulation by 1917, hoarded or melted, leaving local governments to fill the gap with whatever printing facilities were available to them.

Municipal 50 Pfennig issues from this period were almost universally over-printed in large quantities and survived in high numbers, since most saw little actual use — collectors absorbed them almost immediately.
