| Opmerkingen |
Idstein's 1919 municipal Notgeld issue came out of the same post-armistice chaos that forced hundreds of small German towns to print their own fractional currency when the central government couldn't keep coin in circulation. The watermarked paper is an unusual touch for a town of this size — most comparable Magistrat issues from 1919 skipped security features entirely, printing on whatever stock was available.
Idstein sits in Nassau, an area with a dense concentration of small-town notgeld issuers, which makes attribution and variety tracking genuinely tricky. The Tieste reference Va#3175.05.05 places this within a documented subseries, suggesting at least one variant exists.
