背面描述 Printed in green and ochre on cream paper with a dashed border frame. The centre is occupied by an ornate heraldic vignette: the rampant lion coat of arms of Sonneberg set against an orange shield, surrounded by an elaborate wreath of oak leaves with decorative scroll and dot ornaments in green and black. A wide green ribbon scroll across the lower centre bears the inscription 'Fünfzig Pfennig' in blackletter script. The denomination numeral '50' appears in bold at the upper left and upper right corners, and the place name 'Sonneberg S.M.' is printed at the top centre. Orange floral underprint panels fill the lateral margins.

备注

Sonneberg issued this Notgeld in 1918 as wartime metal shortages made small-change coins functionally unavailable across Germany. The town sat in the Thuringian toy-manufacturing district — an economic identity that would later make Sonneberg's Notgeld among the more visually ambitious of the Saxe-Meiningen municipal issues, though the 1918 emergency series predates the decorative collector-oriented issues that flooded the market from 1920 onward.

The DeNG reference places this within the first wave of municipal paper, issued out of practical necessity rather than philatelic intent. Sonneberg was absorbed into the newly consolidated state of Thuringia in 1920, making Stadt issues under the Saxe-Meiningen designation a short window.
