Opmerkingen

Kempen in Posen — now Kępno in west-central Poland — issued this note as part of the vast Notgeld wave that swept German municipalities when wartime metal shortages made coin production impossible. The Magistrat, like hundreds of similar local authorities, became a de facto emergency issuer simply to keep small transactions functioning.

Graß, Barth & Comp., operating under the W. Friedrich imprint in Breslau, printed municipal Notgeld for numerous Silesian and Poznań-region towns during this period — a regional concentration that reflected both proximity and existing commercial relationships with local governments.
