| 表面の説明 | Salmon-toned notgeld on a fine guilloche underprint ground. At centre, a large ornate wreath of stylised floral and foliate garlands frames two oval underprint vignettes bearing the numeral '50 Pf.' at left and right, with the bold blackletter denomination 'FÜNFZIG PFENNIG' superimposed across the centre. At the top of the wreath, a small circular vignette contains the Wolfenbüttel city arms with a mounted horseman. The issuing authority inscription and validity clause appear in blackletter script in the lower half, with three manuscript signatures of the Stadtmagistrat above the lower margin. A red serial number is printed in the upper right corner. |

Wolfenbüttel's 50 Pfennig Notgeld of 1918 was issued by the city magistrate as metal coinage disappeared from circulation during the final year of the war — hoarded, melted, or consumed by the military economy. Thousands of German municipalities printed their own emergency small-denomination paper that year, but the sheer volume of surviving Wolfenbüttel pieces suggests these circulated heavily rather than being saved as novelties, which became the dominant collector-driven motive for Notgeld issues in 1921–22.
