Beschrijving voorzijde Blue notgeld printed over a fine guilloche underprint within a decorative cross-motif border, with the denomination numeral '50' in bold at upper left and upper right. The issuer inscription 'Stadtkreis Forst (Lausitz)' and the title 'Gutschein' head the note, while the value legend 'über Fünfzig Pfennige' is set in ornate Fraktur script above an elaborate oval guilloche vignette at centre. Below, a two-line redemption clause states validity through 31 December 1918, followed by the place and date of issue 'Forst (Lausitz), den 21. April 1917' and facsimile manuscript signatures of the Magistrat.

Opmerkingen

Forst (Lausitz) was a major center of the German wool and textile industry, and like hundreds of other municipalities it turned to locally printed Notgeld in 1917 when small-denomination coinage effectively vanished from circulation — hoarded by a public that trusted metal over paper in wartime. The Magistrat's solution was entirely self-contained: E. Hoene, a local printer based in Forst itself, produced the issue without recourse to any specialist banknote firm.

That local production origin is worth noting. Many comparable municipal issues of this period farmed the work out to Leipzig or Berlin printers. Hoene's involvement keeps everything — issuing authority, printer, and place of payment — within the same small town.
