| 表面の説明 | Dark blue-grey letterpress note with an elaborate ornamental border of scrollwork and foliate arabesques enclosing the central design. At top centre, a vignette within an oval cartouche shows a historic town gate tower of Calbe with a bovine figure in the foreground against a horizontally striped blue underprint. Denomination numerals "50" appear in red in circular cartouches at upper left and upper right, while the town name "Calbe a/Saale" is rendered in large Gothic script at centre, above the issue date "den 23. April 1917" and the validity clause, followed by manuscript signatures of Der Magistrat and a serial number. At the foot of the note, a ribbon scroll bears a commemorative inscription referencing the first documentary mention of Calbe by Emperor Otto I in the year 937. |

Calbe an der Saale was a mid-sized Prussian industrial town, and like hundreds of German municipalities in 1917, its local government was forced into issuing Notgeld as the wartime metal shortage made small-denomination Reichsmarks functionally impossible to keep in circulation. The Ratsdruckerei R. Dulce in Glauchau handled a significant volume of this municipal emergency printing work across Saxony and Thuringia during the war years — a regional press filling a national gap.
The DeNG 1#213.4-1/6 reference places this within the first major wave of German municipal paper Notgeld, before the more elaborate artistic issues of 1920–1922 made the series a collector phenomenon.
