Obverse description Brown-toned notgeld voucher printed on plain paper, with a fine wavy-line guilloche underprint at centre carrying a vignette of the Recklinghausen city hall (Rathaus). Large numeral '50' appears at both left and right in bold blackletter type, with the denomination legend 'Gutschein über Pfennig' set across the upper centre. A serial number block is printed in the middle register, below which the redemption conditions are set in three lines of German text; the issue date 'Recklinghausen, den 20. Dezember 1917' appears at lower left alongside a circular red municipality stamp, with a manuscript signature and the title 'Oberbürgermeister' at lower right.
Obverse lettering 50 50 Gutschein über Pfennig No. 031186 Dieser Gutschein wird von der Stadthaupt­kasse Recklinghausen in Zahlung genommen. Er verliert seine Gültigkeit einen Monat nach Aufkündigung in den hiesigen Tageszeitungen. Die Stadt Recklinghausen haftet für die Einlösung. Recklinghausen, den 20. Dezember 1917 Der Magistrat: Oberbürgermeister.
Reverse description The reverse is printed in reddish-brown on a cream paper ground covered overall with a horizontal wavy-line guilloche pattern. A central oval vignette presents a detailed letterpress view of the Recklinghausen Rathaus, a multi-storey Neo-Renaissance municipal building with a prominent clock tower, framed by trees in the foreground. Flanking the oval on left and right are diamond-shaped cartouches each bearing the white numeral '50', the sole inscriptions on this face.
