| 表面の説明 | A finely engraved panoramic townscape vignette of Esslingen am Neckar occupies the centre, rendered in black letterpress over a light blue underprint, with hillside vineyards, medieval fortifications, and the Gothic spire of the Stadtkirche St. Dionys visible against the surrounding roofline. The heading 'Kriegsgeld der Stadt Eßlingen' appears in bold blackletter at the top, while the denomination '50 Pfg.' is set in large blackletter at lower left and right within a tan guilloche border frame. A red serial number is positioned at upper right, and the validity clause with facsimile Oberbürgermeister signature appears in red script at lower centre. |

Esslingen's Notgeld issue is notable for being printed by J. F. Schreiber, a firm better known for its educational publishing — geographical maps, school atlases, and illustrated instructional materials — than for currency work. The press was local, which made it a practical choice during a period when centralized paper supply and printing capacity were severely strained by wartime demands.
The watermark is worth attention: few municipal Notgeld issues of this period bothered with security paper, making Esslingen's an outlier in a sea of notes printed on whatever stock was available.
