Kummerfeld is a small village in Schleswig-Holstein, and its 1921 Pfennig notgeld is exactly the kind of hyper-local emergency issue that defines the period — printed in Hamburg by Konrad Hanf, a firm that produced notgeld for dozens of small municipalities across northern Germany during the inflationary years. The economics made it necessary: coin shortages, especially in small denominations, had become acute enough that even settlements with a few hundred residents were commissioning their own scrip.
Hanf was a reliable trade printer, not a specialist engraver, and the production quality reflects that.
