Thesdorf is a small community in Schleswig-Holstein, and this note belongs to the vast Kleingeldersatz phenomenon of postwar Germany — the emergency small-change scrip issued by municipalities, savings banks, and local businesses when coin shortages made everyday commerce nearly impossible after 1918. Konrad Hanf was a Hamburg printer who produced Notgeld for numerous northern German localities during this period, working quickly and at volume.
The issuing municipality had a population small enough that these notes almost certainly circulated within a tight geographic radius before being redeemed and withdrawn — survival rates for minor commune Notgeld vary enormously, and Thesdorf issues attract specialist collectors precisely because the runs were small.
