| Reverse description | The central vignette presents an intaglio rendering of the Monumento a José Pedro Varela, a sculptural group set on a stepped plinth showing allegorical figures of education alongside children and a teacher, inscribed "MONUMENTO A JOSE PEDRO VARELA" below. To the right, a vignette of an open book within a laurel wreath alludes to Varela's educational reforms. The composition is framed by intricate multicolour guilloche borders throughout. |

The 2015 dated notes in this Uruguayan series were printed by Oberthur Fiduciaire under a contract that also covered several other Latin American central bank clients during the same period. Uruguay had used multiple printers across its post-peso-nuevo issues, and the shift to Oberthur for this generation reflected competitive tendering rather than any policy change at the Banco Central.
The security specification here is relatively modest — watermark and thread only, without the optical variable elements found on higher denominations in the same family. Entirely appropriate for the face value.
