| 裏面の説明 | The left half of the reverse is dominated by a detailed intaglio vignette of the Monument to José Pedro Varela, rendered in red-brown tones, showing the multi-figured sculptural composition on a stepped base with allegorical figures surrounding a central standing figure. To the right, a vignette of an open book within a laurel wreath serves as an underprint motif, beneath the bank title and denomination panel. The printer's imprint 'THOMAS DE LA RUE AND COMPANY LIMITED' appears in small lettering at the lower right. |

The 50 Pesos Uruguayos denomination was introduced as part of a redenomination series following Uruguay's long struggle with inflation — the country had shed three zeros from the old peso in 1993, making notes like this one effectively worth 50,000 of the previous unit. Thomas De La Rue handled the contract, as they had for much of Uruguay's modern note production.
The cotton substrate and single watermark security package reflect the modest budget allocated to mid-range denominations in this series. Higher values received more elaborate protection; the 50 was considered low enough risk to keep simple.
