| Obverse description | The Cuban national coat of arms occupies the central field, featuring the traditional escutcheon with the royal palm, rising sun, and key, supported by an oak and laurel wreath. The country name REPUBLICA DE CUBA arcs as a legend along the upper periphery, while the face value 50 PESOS is inscribed along the lower periphery. The coin's weight and silver fineness specifications (5 OZ and AG 0.999) appear in the lateral fields flanking the arms. The design, identical in layout to KM#598, differs only in the stated face value and weight denomination. |

| Reverse description | The central device depicts the celebrated ancient Statue of Zeus (Jupiter) at Olympia, shown within its grand temple setting, rendered in high relief against a plain field. A curved legend arcs along the upper periphery within a decorative border of stars, identifying the series as MARAVILLAS DEL MUNDO ANTIGUO (Wonders of the Ancient World). The specific subject, ESTATUA DE JUPITER OLIMPICO, is inscribed in a straight legend beneath the central image. The date 1997 and the mint mark appear in the lower portion of the design below the main device. |

| Additional information |
Cuba issued a wave of large-format silver pieces through the 1990s under a hard-currency program designed to attract foreign collector revenue — effectively using numismatics as a sanctions-era export. The Jupiter piece belongs to a series drawing on classical mythology, struck at the Casa de la Moneda and distributed almost exclusively through international dealers rather than domestic circulation.
At 155.5 grams of .999 silver, these were never intended to trade as currency within Cuba itself.
