Additional information

Cuba's piedfort gold program of the late 1980s and early 1990s was driven largely by the Castro government's need for hard currency as Soviet subsidies began collapsing — these pieces were never intended for domestic circulation and were sold directly into the international collector market. The piedfort format, struck at double the standard planchet thickness, was a deliberate premium strategy borrowed from European mints to justify higher margins per gram of gold.

The KM unlisted status and single JMA reference suggest extremely limited documentation; surviving population data from major grading services remains negligible.
