Opmerkingen

The Banco de la República's 50 Pesos Oro notes of this period were printed by Thomas De La Rue through a long-standing contract relationship that had supplied Colombia with engraved currency since the mid-twentieth century. De La Rue's intaglio work on Colombian issues from this era is generally considered cleaner than the parallel output from IBMC, the domestic security printer Bogotá was increasingly relying on for lower denominations.

Inflation was eroding the 50 Pesos Oro's purchasing power rapidly during these years — by 1983, Colombia's annual inflation rate exceeded 20%, and the denomination was already feeling marginal in daily transactions. The series was retired not long after.
