Reverse description A portrait effigy of Hatuey, the Taíno chieftain, is depicted in the central field, with his name inscribed below the portrait. The curved legend V CENTENARIO 1492 1991 arches along the upper periphery, commemorating the fifth centenary of the European arrival in the Americas. A mintmark and the issue date appear to the right of the portrait. The lower border is adorned with a stylized indigenous geometric pattern echoing the design on the obverse.
