The Gobierno Provisional de México was the administration Venustiano Carranza established at Veracruz after refusing to recognize Victoriano Huerta's coup government in 1913. By 1914, with Huerta's forces still controlling Mexico City, Carranza's constitutionalist faction was issuing its own paper currency to fund military operations — this note belongs to that wartime fiscal machinery, not to any settled banking arrangement.
The series is known for significant variation in signatures and manuscript annotations, as provisional revolutionary administrations rarely maintained tight printing controls. Authentication of individual examples against documented signature combinations is worth doing before attribution.
