备注

Cuba's peso convertible (CUC) system was introduced in 1994 as a direct response to the "Special Period" economic crisis that followed the collapse of Soviet subsidies. The CUC was pegged to the US dollar at par, making this note — and the convertible peso series as a whole — a two-tier currency instrument designed to capture hard currency from tourism and remittances while keeping the population's ordinary peso (CUP) transactions separate.

The dual-currency system was widely criticized as institutionally inequitable, effectively creating two economic classes. Cuba announced its abolition in 2020, with the CUC formally withdrawn from circulation in June 2021.
