正面描述 The Cuban national coat of arms occupies the central field, featuring the distinctive shield with a key, rising sun, and royal palm, flanked by an oak and laurel branch. The circular legend REPUBLICA DE CUBA arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination 50 PESOS is inscribed below the arms. The weight designation 5 OZ and the fineness AG 0.999 are positioned on either side of the central device, denoting the coin's five-troy-ounce fine silver content.

背面描述 A dramatic depiction of the Colossus of Rhodes dominates the central field, portraying the legendary bronze statue straddling the harbour entrance with sailing vessels visible in the waters below. The design reflects a heroic, classical artistic style befitting the ancient wonder it commemorates. A circular legend arcs along the upper periphery reading MARAVILLAS DEL MUNDO ANTIGUO (Wonders of the Ancient World), while COLOSO DE RODAS (Colossus of Rhodes) is inscribed along the lower border. The date 1997 and mintmark appear to the right of the central device, with decorative star ornaments punctuating the inscriptions.

附加信息

Cuba's large-format silver program of the 1990s used the Seven Wonders series partly as hard currency bait — pieces like this were sold directly to foreign collectors and dealers to generate dollar revenue the domestic economy couldn't produce. The Colossus of Rhodes is a particularly apt subject: the original statue, likely cast in bronze over an iron armature by the sculptor Chares of Lindos around 280 BC, stood for less than 60 years before an earthquake dropped it in 226 BC. Ptolemy III reportedly offered to fund its reconstruction; the Rhodians declined, citing an oracle.
