| Obverse description | The obverse is framed by an intricate guilloche border with oval corner cartouches each bearing the denomination '50 PESOS'. A central vignette engraved in fine intaglio style presents a seated allegorical female figure surrounded by maritime and agricultural implements, with a ship visible in the background. Below, the text 'LA CONFEDERACION ARGENTINA' appears in bold letterpress within a ruled panel, followed by a handwritten-style inscription acknowledging the note's value in Castellana silver plata, and the issuer's authority line 'Por la Administracion de Hacienda y Credito Publico', with 'SPECIMEN' overprinted across the lower portion. |

The Administración de Hacienda y Crédito Público was not a central bank but a fiscal administrative body — these notes circulated under government treasury authority during a period when Mexico lacked a unified national banking structure. The American Bank Note Company supplied much of Mexico's paper currency through the latter half of the nineteenth century, and the engraved quality of these issues reflects the ABNC's standard commercial contract work of that period.
PS-prefixed references place this in the Pick Specialized catalog for Mexican state and revolutionary issues. Worth confirming which specific state or regional treasury authorized this particular series, as the PS165 range covers more than one issuing jurisdiction.
