50 Pesos 75th Anniversary of Banco de Mexico

Banco de México's 75th anniversary fell in 2000, and this commemorative issue marks the occasion with a note still denominated and circulated as legal tender rather than produced purely as a collector piece — a deliberate policy choice by the bank that distinguishes it from the souvenir sheets issued by some central banks on similar occasions.

Printed entirely in-house at the bank's own Mexico City facility, which has handled domestic production since the 1980s, the note carries a security thread and watermark but lacks the polymer substrate the bank would later adopt for smaller denominations. Cotton paper remained the choice here.
