Obverse description Intaglio-printed portrait of Domingo Faustino Sarmiento occupies the right half of the note, rendered in fine line engraving against a handwritten manuscript underprint. To the left, a vignette illustrates a schoolroom or outdoor teaching scene with figures in period dress, set within a purple-toned guilloche surround. The denomination "CINCUENTA PESOS" appears in bold vertical letterpress along the centre-left, with the bank title across the upper field and denomination numerals in green at the far left.

Reverse description Central vignette presents an intaglio rendering of the Casa de Gobierno (Casa Rosada) on Plaza de Mayo, Buenos Aires, with the Pirámide de Mayo obelisk and the Argentine flag in the foreground. Flanking underprint vignettes in ochre tones include a historic steam locomotive at lower left and a group of colonial-era figures with a sailing vessel at right; a quill, inkwell, and a scroll inscribed "El Progreso" appear at centre-right. The Argentine national coat of arms is printed at upper right, with two facsimile signatures below.
