Opmerkingen

Argentina's Caja de Conversión was a currency board mechanism established in 1890 after the catastrophic Baring Crisis, designed to enforce a strict link between gold reserves and paper circulation. This 50 Peso note belongs to a series issued under that convertibility regime — but the regime itself was suspended in 1914 at the outbreak of World War I, when gold exports were halted and the automatic conversion guarantee quietly shelved. The notes continued circulating under the old institutional name long after the convertibility it implied had ceased to function.

The series ran until 1935, when the Banco Central de la República Argentina was finally created and absorbed the Caja's remaining functions.
