Issued under Soviet military authority following the Red Army's advance into Hungary in late 1944, this note was part of a six-denomination series produced in Moscow for immediate use in occupied territory. The issuing line reads in Hungarian — "Vöröshadsereg Parancsnoksága" — a deliberate concession to local readability in a country that had been fighting alongside Nazi Germany until occupation. The notes were not backed by any recognizable monetary authority and had no formal exchange guarantee.
With over twelve million printed, this was among the higher-circulation values in the military series, yet surviving examples in decent condition are not common — wartime Hungary descended into one of history's worst hyperinflations within months, making most paper money effectively disposable.
