Beschrijving voorzijde Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara, after the portrait by Ian Rank-Broadley, whose initials IRB appear below the truncation. The circumferential legend reads ELIZABETH II to the upper left and BAILIWICK OF GUERNSEY to the upper right, with FIFTY PENCE to the left and the date 2017 at the base, all separated by raised dots. The portrait is rendered in high relief against a polished dark field, characteristic of the prooflike finish.

Aanvullende informatie

Guernsey has issued commemorative 50 pence pieces with some regularity, but its legal tender status makes this a curiosity — face value of 50p on a gold-plated copper piece with a melt value nowhere near its issue price. The WWI centenary commemorative programme across British Crown Dependencies ran from roughly 2014 through 2018, producing dozens of individually themed releases.

The Victory Medal and British War Medal were the two most widely distributed British campaign medals of the First World War, issued together so routinely that veterans nicknamed the pair "Mutt and Jeff." Approximately 6.5 million Victory Medals were awarded.
