Additional information

The Battle of Verdun, fought from February to December 1916, became the longest single battle of the First World War and consumed roughly 700,000 casualties between French and German forces. Jersey's connection to the Western Front was direct — the island contributed a higher proportion of its male population to the conflict than almost any other British territory, with losses felt acutely in a community of fewer than 55,000 people.

Gold-plated steel issues of this type were produced for the centenary commemorative series rather than circulation. KM#327 is one of several WWI battle-themed pieces Jersey released across 2016.
