| Beschrijving keerzijde | Two athletes engaged in the sport of wrestling are depicted in dynamic action within a stylized stadium setting, rendered in a bold, graphic design style commemorating the London 2012 Olympic Games. The official London 2012 Olympic logo appears prominently above the central figural group. The denomination is inscribed below the wrestling scene. The overall composition is designed to fit the distinctive heptagonal flan of the British 50 pence coin. |

Issued ahead of the London 2012 Olympics, this piece belongs to the Royal Mint's ambitious 50-coin sports series — one of the largest commemorative programs the Mint had undertaken for a single event. Wrestling was among the more contentious inclusions; the sport was nearly dropped from the Olympic program entirely by the IOC in 2013, a decision later reversed after significant lobbying from international federations.
The gold proof version was struck to a mintage of just 995 pieces.
