| Reverse description | Central motif consisting of a large, finely detailed Tudor rose in high relief, comprising an inner five-petalled rose superimposed upon an outer five-petalled rose, bordered by a ring of fine beading. At the centre of the inner rose is a royal crown surmounting the entwined cipher EP (Elizabeth and Philip), symbolising the royal couple. Two crossed arrows flank the rose in the lower field, with small heart ornaments at the sides. The upper legend ELIZABETH AND PHILIP arcs around the periphery, while the commemorative dates 1947 and 1987 appear in the lower field to either side of the crossed arrows, recording the fortieth anniversary of the royal wedding. |
