Beschrijving voorzijde Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the George IV State Diadem, pearl drop earrings, and a pearl necklace, rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished field. The portrait, in the style associated with the Raphael Maklouf third coinage effigy, displays fine detail in the crown's floral and jewelled elements. The circular legend reads QUEEN ELIZABETH II · 2002 · FALKLAND ISLANDS · 50 PENCE · in raised Latin lettering, with the denomination 50 PENCE appearing prominently at the base.

Aanvullende informatie

The 2002 Falkland Islands commemorative program coincided with Elizabeth II's Golden Jubilee, but the islands had particular reason to mark the occasion — the 1982 Argentine invasion and the subsequent British military campaign that retook the islands had made loyalty to the Crown something felt rather than merely ceremonial. Post-war Falklands commemoratives carry a political charge absent from most Commonwealth issues.

The KM#76a.1 designation distinguishes this colored silver variant from the uncolored 76a, both struck by the Pobjoy Mint under its long-standing contract with the islands.
