The denomination legend FIFTY PENCE is inscribed in spaced capitals along the lower arc of the field, flanking the base of the composition, with the engraver's initials CD appearing centrally just below the figures. The interplay of mirror-polished fields within the cross arms and the frosted sculptural group creates a dramatic visual contrast befitting the piedfort proof format. |
